API key (legacy)

An API key (legacy) is a permanent access token created before June 2024 used for accessing ArcGIS location services. API keys (legacy) have been replaced with API key credentials and can no longer be created as of June 12, 2024.

An API key (legacy) differs from a modern API key in the following ways:

  • An API key (legacy) does not expire.
  • An API key (legacy) can only be scoped to access location services and items with a sharing level of private.
  • The scope of an API key (legacy) can be adjusted without invalidating the token.
  • ArcGIS Enterprise users cannot create an API key (legacy).
