A tile layer is a data layer that can access and display tiles (rectangular sections) into a continuous layer. These tiles are either raster image tiles or vector tiles that are generated into a tile cache before being made available for use. This is different than a dynamic layer, which is rendered in response to user actions. Tiled layers are often used for basemaps. In older documentation, the term tiled layer frequently refers only to raster tiled layers, because vector tile layers are newer.
